Meet Application Engineer Ayrton Rogers

Meet Ayrton Rogers, Applications Engineer at Electrified Motors.

Ayrton works with customers to develop tailored motor solutions for their applications, adapting our products to integrate with everything from pumps to gearboxes while meeting customer requirements around performance, packaging and installation.

What is your role at Electrified Motors?
I’m an Applications Engineer and work with customers to develop tailored solutions for their applications.
My job is to understand our customers’ requirements and ensure our motor fits with their application.
That can involve designing the components needed to integrate the motor and then making sure production has what it needs to take that solution through the manufacturing process.

Are customers usually moving from diesel to electric, or are their applications already electrified?
More often than not, customers already have an electric solution and are looking for greater efficiency, more power or a more compact motor. That’s where our products perform particularly well.

How much of the customer’s wider application do you need to consider?
Our focus is making sure the motor interfaces correctly with whatever it’s connecting to, such as a gearbox or pump, while also working within any packaging constraints they have. For example, they might tell us the motor can’t be longer than a certain dimension because of something else within the machine. We then have to design around those requirements.

How long have you been with Electrified Motors?
I’ve been involved with the team in various forms for around six years.

Where did your interest in engineering come from?
I completed an HNC in Manufacturing Engineering. But by the time I was looking for my first job after college I’d already been heavily involved in building and racing cars with my Dad so I had quite a lot of practical mechanical experience for my age.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
Probably the variety. I have a core role, but what I’m working on can be completely different from one day to the next. A new customer requirement or engineering challenge can come across my desk at any time. That’s what keeps it fresh and interesting.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I still race on circuits around the UK, so engineering and cars remain a big part of my life outside work as well.
